Summer Listening Podcast Playlists
Are you looking for ways to keep your kids engaged in screen-free learning this summer? Look no further than the School Library Journal’s Kidcasts’ summer podcast playlists. It complements the “Oceans of Possibilities” collaborative theme taking place at many libraries this summer.
Phoebe Owens and Ali Wilkinson created three playlists that “cross genres and audio styles to bring a range of podcasts to fit different age ranges and needs.” They listened to all 48 episodes in order to bring listeners a wide variety of themes, from underwater animals, saving the planet, and meditation to interesting history, fantastical tales and beyond.
Each summer podcast playlist is grouped by age levels:
An Ocean of Listening: Elementary
The 19 episodes in this playlist include a range of podcast episodes about oceans, from the mythical to the factual. Here you’ll find episodes from Tumble Science, Cool Facts about Animals, Peace Out, The Adventures of Power Dog in Dogland, and more. This includes our Dorktales Storytime Hidden Heroes of History episode on Ida Lewis, a seafaring tale of daring do in a long dress and petticoats! Our episode on Eugenie Clark, the Shark Lady, would be another great fit for this playlist too.
An Ocean of Listening: Middle School
14 episodes keep the animal facts coming at an age-appropriate level for middle schoolers. This playlist includes Smash Boom Best, Revisionist History, The Past and the Curious, Unspookable, and more.
An Ocean of Listening: High School
15 episodes give highschoolers a deeper dive into all things oceanography. This includes conversations, explorations, myths, legends and lore from such popular podcasts as Ologies, Overheard at National Geographic and All Creatures Podcast.
